Harvey,

Its a great CMS that you have! And congratulations to you in the first place.

I am using joomla at the moment - for over 2 years! And it is indeed a great software.

Am a non-technical guy... I tried drupal once. But found it to be too complex!

I have been searching the web for a true multi-site open-source cms. And guess what! There are none!

Lemme detail what I am looking from a cms

# Multiple Sites from a single installation
# Member Database is "installation wide" or can be separate
# Shared Member Groups across Sites or separate
# Weblogs and Templates can be accessed across Sites
# Independent Preferences per site
# Run off the same database

I took most of it from expressions engine.

I am single handedly running our church's website - www .syromalankara .org

Have created a concept wherein one can have mini-sites off my site. (for our church). And I needed a multi-site cms! Have searched and searched, but haven't really found a decent one.

Jojo seems very promising, except for the part where I have to create mutiple databases!

Is there a way you can aim at being a really great multi-site cms. Your SEO friendliness is what you talk about today. Take it a step forward!

regards!

Hi Sandeep,

Our definition of multi-site is a little different to what you are looking for - Jojo simply allows one set of core files to run multiple sites, but there is no other connection between the sites - completely separate users, groups, content and administration, etc. This is a big thing for web developers running lots of sites on one server, but not what you were after. Templates can be shared between sites under a multisite install, depending how you structure them.

We are somewhat in the process of implementing what we call "subsite" functionality, where you can have multiple domains or subdomains controlled by a single install (which sounds more like what you are looking for). This code doesn't play nice with the multilingual features, so we haven't released this functionality yet. We want this functionality so that we can have forums.jojocms.org, blog.jojocms.org, www.jojocms.org (and whatever else) all sharing a single administration area, navigational structure, and user/group base.

And we implemented the ability to have multiple installs out of one database earlier this week in our dev copy, which should be stable for our next release.

We are doing our best to make the CMS great, and I think we are doing well. We will keep your requests in mind as we continue development.

Harvey.

We have four project types and are looking for an open source cms with
multi-site to build on it our Staging Area. So there would be four main templates and one site will be brought to life each time a project would be
initiated.

The concept you mention above of the "subsite" functionality seems go fit this goal... any updates on this functionality?

THis will also go great along with table_prefixes so that everything would fit nicely in a DB and a File Folder... making backup really easy and making JOJO a more awesome CMS than it already is...

Thanks in advance...

Hi Carlos,

The multisite feature has been shelved at the moment - the original implementation worked great but we have since taken the product in a different direction and will need to restart this feature from scratch, and this isn't likely to happen in the next couple of releases - although a great feature.

Sorry about this,

Harvey.

Hello! Has anyone heard about Jentla software? I've heard it's a great CMS Open Source. What do you think?
