Hello,
I was wondering how the multi-lingual functions work. I know UTF-8 can support Japanese, wordpress works with it all the time.
I know the backend for jojo and the front end use UTF-8 to display information, so i'm wondering how it turns into useless babble.
When I write a page in Japanese, and set the language to japanese also, and save it, once it finishes saving all the japanese turns into ????? and for the front end it has a whole bunch of weird characters.
What can I do to fix this?
Thanks,
Takumi

Hi Takumi,

Can you please have a look in the database and see if the characters are saved correctly in there.

What version of PHP and MySQL are you using?

Mike,
The collation for the database is latin1_swedish_ci and so are all of the tables within it, and the content saved in the database is also unreadable.
Shouldn't the tables switch to UTF-8 collation when adding multilingual content? How would I be able to do this?
Thanks,
Takumi

Just checked one of our sites that has Japanese content and the database and tables are all latin1_swedish_ci collation.

I'm pretty sure the database queries are setup so it doesn't mater what the collation is set to.

I've never tested Japanese input with anything other then Firefox, PHP5, Mysql 5. What versions are you using?
