initially i had wampserver and when i accessed phpmyadmin i made a mistake and uninstalled wamp from control panel and also deleted the wamp folder from the computer, restarted the computer but the registry keys for wamp are still there

so i then installed xampp as i mentioned previously i removed port 80 on skype even the antime i start apache server using xampp and when i access http://localhost/xampp it does not work so i uninstalled xampp and reinstalled xampp however the apache of xampp does not start for a reason i do not know

so i basically do not have wamp or xampp

how can i set a password for root using sql command line as i am not able to access phpmyadmin

also when i connect through putty i am getting a connection refused message i have type localhost for the host

after connecting using putty how do i navigate to a folder in order to execute an sql command or do i simply execute at the command port itself

please advice

thanks

If you don't have a copy of phpMyAdmin as part of a WAMP / XAMPP install, you should manually install your own copy. This is easy to do.

Just download / unzip a copy phpMyAdmin, then upload that folder to your webserver (or in the case of a local install, just create a folder in the web root).

You will need to edit the phpMyAdmin config file to enter the database details.

Otherwise, you can execute SQL commands from the command line in either Linux or Windows - there will be good tutorials on how to do this if you search around, but the basic string you need for Windows is as follows...

cd c:\path\to\your\mysql\bin
mysql -u root -ppassword databasename

I suspect installing phpMyAdmin is going to be the best way to go.

thanks for replying

i have a folder called phpmyadmin3.2.0.1 in d:/wamp/apps/phpmyadmin3.2.0.1 which contains all the folders and files that are needed. this folder was created after i reinstalled wamp server

do i need to edit config.inc.php located at d:/wamp/apps/phpmyadmin3.2.0.1 i have given a password as root for
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['password'] = 'root';

when i click on MySQL console from the wamp icon in the system tray i get a command prompt asking for password when i type root and hit enter an error message appears quickly and the command prompt automatically disappears
the error is

cannot connect to mysql server on localhost

also when i open the mysql.exe file located at
D:\wamp\bin\mysql\mysql5.1.36\bin a dos prompt appears and disappears quickly with error as

cannot connect to mysql server on localhost 10061

please advice.

If I recall correctly, if you don't enter a password in the phpMyAdmin config file, it will prompt you for the password when you load the page (and it should work with root user/pass).

You will probably find you get better answers on the phpMyAdmin forums for this sort of question, personally phpMyAdmin / WAMP / XAMPP has 'just worked' for me so I haven't had to spend much time troubleshooting.
